Chief minster N Kiran Kumar Reddy had a busy day on the second day of his Indiramma Baata in West Godavari district on Saturday. He inaugurated the administrative building of the YSR Horticulture University in Venkataramannagudem here and later interacted with students of the university.
He said the government was striving to make horticulture a profitable occupation. "In coming days more emphasis will be on horticulture crops and government will take steps for facilitating jobs for the students coming out of horticulture university," he said.
Budgetary allocation for horticulture has been increased from Rs 900 crore last fiscal to Rs 1,200 crore in the current fiscal. Similarly, budget for animal husbandry has been increased from Rs 650 crore to Rs 1,000 crore, while budget for fisheries has been increased from Rs 20 crore to Rs 200 crore, the chief minister said.
He said a notification to recruit 114 horticulture officials had been already issued and every mandal would have a horticulture official soon. The agriculture university had been trifurcated into agriculture, veterinary and horticulture universities for more focus on the respective areas. Citing an example of how horticulture could be made a profitable venture and even generate more jobs, he said those engaged in floriculture could develop nurseries and at the same time make flower bouquets.
Later, he inaugurated the Indiramma Housing colony with 365 houses at Kodupurolu village. Speaking on the occasion, he said Rs 200 crore more would be allocated for Indiramma housing in next two years. He also sanctioned Rs 1 crore for infrastructure facilites for the new colony. Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated Road Over Bridges at Tadepalliguden and Tanuku constructed at a cost of Rs 35 crore each. District in-charge minisier K Lakshminarayana, ministers Vatti Vasanth Kumar, Pitani Satyanarayana, MPs K Sambasiva Rao, K Bapiraju, U Arun Kumar, MLAs E Nani, M Usharani and district collector G Vani Mohan accompanied the chief minister.
