Govt mulling increasing no of SC judges
Govt was giving thought to proposals to allow foreign law firms to carry on their business in India, said Bhardwaj.

New Delhi: Centre was mulling increasing the number of judges of the Supreme Court in view of backlog of cases, said Union Law Minister H R Bhardwaj on Saturday.

Talking to PTI in Jaipur, he said the Government was not thinking in terms of allowing foreign citizens to practise as advocates in courts in India.

However, the Centre was giving thought to proposals to allow foreign law firms to carry on their business in India, the Law Minister said.

In view of heavy backlog of cases, the Centre was mulling increasing the number of judges of the Supreme Court, he said.

On confrontation between the legislature and the judiciary, he said the two were independent organs and there was no overlapping of functions.

Bhardwaj was here to inaugurate a seminar on juvenile delinquency organised by the Rajasthan High Court in tandem with the Social Justice Ministry.
