New Delhi: Union Health Ministry on Wednesday night threatened to serve termination notices to the defiant striking doctors by 0900 hours on Thursday morning in the event of their not calling off the 20-day old strike.
"We are hopeful that they will call off their strike by Wednesday night and in the eventuality they did not join duty, we will be sending termination notices by 0900 hours on Thursday ", Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters.
"The termination format was ready and the government had already given them notice," he added.
Ramadoss, who visited AIIMS, Safdarjung and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospitals in Delhi earlier on Wednesday, said the feeling was that the doctors will withdraw their strike on Wednesday and most of them were turning back to work.
While in AIIMS all the strikers wanted to resume work, Resident Doctors in Safdarjung Hospital have disassociated from the strike.
In RML 60 per cent of doctors have come back, he informed.
At the same time, the government was planning to recruit retired doctors for a period of one year and extendable for another one year, he said.
"We will be requiring faculty for the new six AIIMS institutions. We hope to recruit nearly 2,000 retired doctors for these six institutions", he said.
