You will reach home safely thanks to an innovative form of charity from two young men from Thrissur. Drinkers in the city are on cloud 9 after watching this advertisement on Facebook and some social networking sites, which offers a free ride to tipplers to their home after a rave party. According to the advertisement, if one feels any difficulty in driving his vehicle after being drunk, they just need to make a call over this numbers, a newly formed youths’ team will come and pick the tippler with his/her vehicle and safely drop them at their doorsteps.The idea is the brainchild of two youths, Joshy Kattookaran, an entrepreneur in Thrissur, and Biju Kombara. “We are not promoting drinking habit but we felt it’s rather good to help them than falling prey to accidents after losing control over their vehicle,” says Joshy.In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents, the Union Government had decided to bring in a Bill proposing amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act. According to the Bill, one has to shell out five times penalty than the existing fine.After the advertisement was posted, they got around 1,000 calls in three days but some calls had threatening voices, he said. “My friend is in a dilemma whether to continue with the project after getting some threatening calls and he is about to drop the venture halfway but I am determined to go ahead,” he adds.It was mainly some Internet calls from abroad that threatened us. But the local response is overwhelming, he said. Some homemakers called up and informed us their apprehension over the move as they fear it would drive their hubbies to drink more.In the first phase, they restricted their service only to the city but will expand it after evaluating the response. So for tipplers, don’t need to worry anymore.
