Homoeopathic healing for women

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A homoeopathic way to heal wounds suppurating deep inside the mind of every women! ‘Seethalayam’, the first gender-based programme launched by the State Homoeopathy Department is proving to be a big hit. Since its inception in February, the centre at the Pattom Thanu Pillai Memorial Government Homoeo Hospital at East Fort, has drawn more than 200 women seeking cure for physical and mental ailments. From teenagers to septuagenarians, women from all walks of life have sought treatment at the centre. The six-member team works under the leadership of Dr Kumari S Bindu, medical officer-in-charge. Majority of the complaints pertain to family problems, husband’s drinking habits, pre-marital syndrome and complaints regarding children having ADH (Attention Deficient Hyperactivity) disorder. ‘’At times, we have to provide counselling for their family members also, so as to uproot the cause of their worries. As we keep the details confidential, they are open to discuss their personal problems,’’ says Dr Mary Bindu, medical officer of ‘Seethalayam’.The authorities said that in some cases, the women were found to be suffering from physical ailments triggered by mental agonies. In some critical cases, inpatient treatment was also provided. IP treatment has been stopped for a while till the construction of the new block is over. ‘’Most of the patients are women above the age of 40. Though we have provided solution in many cases, we could’nt offer help in some chronic cases, including those suffering from schizophrenia,’’ Dr Mary said.The women are provided either medicine or counselling according to the nature of their problem. Some of them were referred to seek legal aid and one was rehabilitated. The Thiruvananthapuram centre is the only one in south Kerala and people from distant places too approach the centre for help. ‘’Women from far off places like Chalakkudy and Munnar had approached us,’’ said psychologist Salini C S. The team members at the centre include six women, including two medical officers, one each clinical psychologist, pharmacist, attender and a DTP operator. The unit functions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. everyday.The Homeopathy Department has also set up two other clinics in Kottayam and Kozhikode.For the services of ‘Seethalayam’, call 0471- 2472600.
