Hyderabad: In a miraculous escape for a boy from Hyderabad, neurosurgeons from Osmania General Hospital removed an iron rod which had pierced his eyeball and skull.
The metal rod with a hook used in mutton shops had pierced the left eye and the skull of 12-year-old boy Md Baba Qureshi.
According to a New Indian Express report, Qureshi was conscious and his eyeball was intact when he was brought to the hospital on June 6.
The hospital conducted the surgery free of cost even though the actual amount is close to Rs 1 lakh.
Doctors say the surgery was performed by the neuro surgery department after CT scan and X-ray revealed the complexity of the injury.
The team consisted of Dr Premjit Ray, HOD Neurosurgery and Dr Venu Gopal, assistant professor of Neurosurgery along with Dr Shivani, assistant professor of Anaesthesia along with superintendent Dr GVS Murthy, nursing and paramedical staff.
The patient, according to the doctors, has recovered well and is due for discharge.
