In Telangana's Karimnagar, Couple Hosts Grand Naming Ceremony For Calf

A cow holds profound significance in Hinduism, is revered as a sacred being and is often regarded as a member of the family. According to Hindu scriptures, the cow embodies three vital deities and worshipping it is akin to worshipping these revered gods. In an exclusive report by News18, a heartwarming naming ceremony for a calf was organised by a couple from Karimnagar, Telangana.

Gaurishetty Muninder and his wife Anuradha, an elderly couple from Karimnagar, Telangana, hosted a naming ceremony for their cherished calf. The event took place at the district headquarters and was attended by family and friends, drawing a crowd of approximately 500 people. The calf was named Radharani and was adorned with new garments for the occasion.

The ceremony included special pujas performed in reverence, while the endearing calf was placed in a cradle. Women sang spiritual hymns, expressing their devotion to the animal. This tradition harks back to ancestral practices of celebrating gowmata, as shared by Muninder with News18. The couple intends to host another function for their calf after 21 days.

Muninder emphasised the importance of similar celebrations for cows, advocating for their preservation. During the festivities, attendees were invited to pay homage to the calf, underscoring the reverence accorded to cows in Hinduism.

In Hindu belief systems, the cow symbolises strength, prosperity and maternal affection. Devotees perceive it as a manifestation of the Mother Goddess, embodying fertility and abundance. Lord Krishna, revered as a divine figure in Hindu mythology, is often depicted as a cowherder, symbolising protection and care for these revered animals. Additionally, the cow embodies principles of non-violence and compassion, promoting harmony and well-being.

Demonstrating love and respect towards cows is believed to bring happiness and prosperity, aligning with the ethos of Hindu spirituality. The naming ceremony organised by Muninder and Anuradha reflects the deep-rooted cultural and religious significance attached to cows in Hindu traditions, fostering a sense of reverence and devotion towards these sacred animals.
