THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Preeth Pavithran, a Kerala-based software engineer, has made a stellar mark at the 14th World Deaf Magicians Festival held in Helsinki, Finland, by lifting the third prize in ‘Comedy Magic’ at the biennial festival organised by the Society of World Magicians. Preeth Pavithran outshone contestants from 15 countries to win the honour. He is the only Indian to win an award in this category since the inception of the festival in 1986. Around 50 deaf magicians from countries including the US, UK, Germany, Russia and Italy took part in the event, held from April 22 to 29. Preeth, 30, works as a user interface designer in a private firm in Technopark. He is the son of Dr K N Pavithran, the former executive director of the National Institute of Speech & Hearing (NISH) here. He had qualified to represent India at the Helsinki festival by winning the first prize in comedy magic, stage magic and micro magic at the first All-India Magic Competition for the Deaf held in Bangalore in February this year. He was also adjudged the Best Magician at the competition organised by the Delhi-based All-India Deaf Arts & Cultural Society.
