Washington: The United States considers it important that India and Pakistan have now started working together to prevent the movement of terrorists across borders.
"I think both sides have - there are legitimate points to be made on both sides," White House spokesman Tony Snow said on Monday in response to a question about New Delhi and Islamabad's differing perceptions about terrorism.
"The most important thing is that Indian and Pakistani forces, especially in border areas, work together on a whole host of the issues that they talked about before, including economic development in the tribal areas, as well as trying to shut off the borders and prevent the movement of terrorists across those borders," he said.
Snow was asked to comment on recent statements attributed to the envoys of India and Pakistan.
While the Pakistani ambassador reportedly suggested that terrorism is related to poverty, his Indian counterpart asserted that terrorists were using religion and terrorism has nothing to do with poverty.
The spokesman declined to answer a question about reports of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden celebrating his 50th birthday indicating that he's alive and in hiding.
