BANGALORE:Leonardo Da Vinci once said, ‘Beauty is lost in life but immortal in art’. Swaying in harmony as art transcends all barriers; the visual transition of ideas indeed evokes a sense of purpose. The revelation of inner truth and wisdom through art has often led to the quest for a higher consciousness. While abstract impressions breathe life into textures; each artist tries to create his own interpretation of the world and life on the canvas. And, establishing the unison of multidimensional entities and flawless innovation, S G Vasudev has proved time and again that an artist’s perception of beauty knows no bounds. His recent exhibition titled Recollections Reconnections showcased some interesting copper relief artwork at Kynkyny Art Gallery. While S G Vasudev swears by symmetry and versatility in art; his ability to capture simplicity in complex two-dimensional art forms is noteworthy. With each of his reliefs, one can notice and comprehend the rhythm of the cosmos. His effortless style in carving out ridges and complex topographies form an intrinsic connection with the viewer. With the Rhapsody series, the artist attempts at defining a personal identity through existence. Celebrating the act of liberation, as spirits escape the bondage of ego; communication between entities in this series instills a sense of peace and liberty. And, it comes as no surprise that he has managed to strike a balance between art and philosophy in all his works.Another masterpiece by S G Vasudev — the Tree of Life takes one on a journey of life, death and enlightenment. Motifs like serpent, birds, monkeys and even human beings carved on this relief unite different worlds of vices and virtues. Torn amidst reality and abstraction, the tree signifies the interconnectedness of life forms in body and spirit. Needless to say, the expressive quality of the whole medium is highlighted with this particular piece. While Mountain establishes the importance of solitude and refinement; Man Tree accentuates the fundamental elements required for man’s existence. With rhythmic lines cutting across broad layers of emotional subtlety; these embossed works illustrate beautifully the marriage between rigidity and calmness. Experimenting with diverse concepts, the artist indeed has an eye for delicate details and rustic textures. Not only does Maithuna explore the glorious acts of love, it also depicts an organic transformation of the relationship between a man and woman. Diminishing the boundary between paintings and sculpture, S G Vasudev sought inspiration from the elaborate carvings of Khajuraho, Kamasutra and poetry. With this particular relief, the artist celebrates the innocence of love and purity. And, what better way to respect the sacred bond than art.Creating both depth and fluidity in his esoteric artworks, S G Vasudev has truly achieved stability in art beyond the limits of perfection. Overall, Recollections Reconnections are nothing but timeless pieces of artistic intricacy.
