THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The hartal may have hit the life of common man hard but it did not spoil the day for political parties, which indulged in fierce campaigning at Neyyatinkara.It was business as usual for all the three political parties on Thursday, with prominent leaders leading from the front. BJP candidate O Rajagopal’s campaign caught wide public attention as he appeared amidst voters riding a bullock cart.The cart sported a green lantern and was fitted with loudspeakers. The message Rajagopal intended to convey was clear. ‘’The government is pushing the country back into the bullock-cart age. This is the apt moment for the people of Neyyatinkara to cast their votes to protest against this,’’ Rajagopal said. On Thursday, the former Union Minister also extended his normal campaign schedule by several hours to make the most of the public mood against the price hike.LDF candidate F Lawrence on Thursday campaigned in the Chenkal panchayat as per his earlier schedule despite the hartal call by his front. Accompanied by several vehicles carrying LDF workers, he toured the entire Chenkal panchayat and attended receptions at 48 centres. Congress (S) state president and former minister Kadannapally Ramachandran inaugurated the tour programme at Chenkal at 8 am.In the case of UDF candidate R Selvaraj’s campaign, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy attended five family meets in Neyyatinkara municipality while KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala led the campaign at Karode panchyat. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, K C Venugopal, KC(B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai were among the slew of UDF leaders who campaigned for Selvaraj.
