New Delhi: Google Inc, the company that powers one of the most popular search engines on the Internet, turned 10 on Sunday.
Google Inc. was registered on this day in 1998 in California by Stanford graduates, Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Brin and Page, both 35, formally established Google by incorporating it with the state of California on September 7, 1998. Their goal was to create a better search engine than the likes of AltaVista, which dominated the industry at the time but often failed to return relevant results.
Since then Google has achieved a market value of $150 billion and provided employment to almost 20,000 employees.
Lately, Google has also been surrounded by privacy controls due to concerns about the sensitive information that the search engine retains of 650 million users who access YouTube and Gmail.
Google also is trying to mine more money from its second-largest acquisition, YouTube, the Internet's leading video channel. YouTube is expected to generate about $200 million in revenue this year, an amount that analysts believe barely scratches the video site's money making potentia
