KOCHI: Justice V R Krishna Iyer has come forward in support of the proposal put forth by V Guard Industries managing director Kochouseph Chittilappilly to solve the Mullaperiyar dam issue. In a letter sent to the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Justice Iyer pointed out that the Mullaperiyar issue has been creating bitterness between the people of both states. “A happy proposal has been put forward by Kochouseph Chittilappilly with the active assistance from two renowned structural engineering consultants. According to the proposal the cost will be around `55 crore as against `1,000 crore needed for building a new dam. Let engineers from both states examine the proposal and if feasible accept it as a solution to the diehard controversy over the Mullaperiyar dam. The proponents of the new scheme have themselves offered without condition a sum of `5.5 crore,” he said adding that the proposal should be given a try by the two governments. Justice Iyer appealed to the Centre and the two state governments to consider the creative proposal from a technical angle.
