Police arrested three men who extorted money from the residents of a village in Latehar claiming to be Maoists.

Ranchi: Jharkhand Police busted a fake Maoist organisation called 'Azad Hind Sena' on Wednesday.

The police raided the group at Kochra village in Latehar district and arrested three men who extorted money from the residents of the area claiming to be Maoists. Six country-made rifles along with 50 cartridges were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the crackdown on Maoists is gathering momentum with the 13 rebel sympathisers arrested in West Bengal remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by a Midnapore court on Wednesday.

Those arrested included Nisha Biswas, scientist of Central Ceramic and Glass Research Centre, Kanishka Choudhury, professor of Behala College and author Manik Mondal. They have been charged with sedition and trying to wage war against the state

The 13 persons, including three from Kolkata, were arrested on Tuesday after the joint security forces detained around 70 people from Kolkata and elsewhere who were trying to enter the forests in Pirakata.

Three journalists along with three members of the human rights group APDR were part of the group. After scrutiny, 13 were arrested and the rest let off.
