HYDERABAD: To create an employable workforce of engineers in the field of Avionics, JNTU Kakinada signed an MoU with Infotech Enterprises Ltd on Wednesday to start a course in M.Tech Avionics. This is an extension of Infotech’s foray in Tier II cities, after it unveiled its SEZ facility in Kakinada in May this year. “Not all students who are qualified are employable by the industries. This leads to high attrition rates and salary hikes for the existing workers,” said chairman and managing director of Infotech, BVR Mohan Reddy.Later speaking to newsmen, Professor Allam Appa Rao, vice-chancellor of JNTUK said that bridging the gap between education and industry through industry-based education would be the main aim of this undertaking. Bringing about a similar partnership with 300 affiliated colleges of JNTUK will be the next step, he said. “It is my aim to provide an offer letter from the industry along with the degree to the students when they pass out of the course,” he said.Citing the company’s performance in 2010-2011, Infotech chairman said that its aerospace engineering service revenues crossed the 100 million dollar mark and is set to grow by 25% over the next year. Growth and possible outsourcing from developed countries will lead to a demand for trained professionals in the field, Mohan Reddy said. Infotech will set up a laboratory for the post- graduate course at JNTUK costing Rs. 50 lakh and the senior personnel from the company will act as adjunct faculty for the course, providing inputs from the industrial perspective. The university is also looking at summer internships and placement opportunities in partnership with Infotech.Avionics requires the knowledge of electronics and communication technology, along with proficiency in computational skills. Students of B.Tech in ECE, EEE who qualify in PGECET or with valid GATE scores are eligible for M.Tech Avionics course. The intake of the course is currently 25 candidates which may be increased depending on the number of applicants.
