KOCHI: The main accused in the funds misappropriation case at Kaloor Post Office, Shrimathi, 60, died at the Medical Trust Hospital here on Saturday following chronic liver disease.According to doctors, she was suffering from liver cirrhosis. “It was a normal death, she was under treatment for liver ailment at the hospital for many years,” Dr Sunil K Mathai, Gastroenterologist at Medical trust Hospital.Sreemathi, who was a sorting assistant at Kaloor Post Office, was arrested on February 16, after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. She was in charge of handling the savings bank and the recurring deposit accounts and allegedly misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 40 lakh from about 500 postal agents between 2006 and 2010.
