Expressing their solidarity with Karnataka on the ongoing Cauvery river dispute, Tamil organisations in the state under the banner of Bangalore Tamil Sangam, will stage a protest in front of Town Hall here on October 3.
Bangalore Tamil Sangam President G Damodaran told Express, “We have invited all Tamil organisations in the city to take part in the protest. Thousands of Tamilians who are living in the city are expected to participate. We will also take part in the protests called by pro-Kannada organisations on October 1. Along with the pro-Kannada organisations, we will also march to Raj Bhavan and hand over a memorandum to Governor H R Bhardwaj.” The Sangam will support the Karnataka bandh on October 6.
Kannada-Tamil Harmony and Social Welfare Trust, Karnataka Tamils Federation, Karnataka Tamil Sangams Federation and other Tamil organisations are in support of the state government.
President of Kannada-Tamil Harmony and Social Welfare Trust N Ramachandran said, “In the guise of Kannada organisations, some miscreants might use the opportunity to disturb the harmony between the Kannadigas and Tamils in the state. We have urged DG & IGP Rukma Pachau and Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) T Suneel Kumar to step up security in sensitive places. They have responded positively.” Kalyana Karnataka Navanirmana Vedike has also extended its support to the bandh on October 6.
Silent Protest in Mysore
Meanwhile, Karnataka Tamil Sangam Federation resolved to extend its support to the Karnataka government on Cauvery issue. The federation will take out a silent procession from Kote Anjaneya Temple to DC’s office on October 3.
