Bhopal: Two people have been arrested for duping a man of Rs 1.55 lakh on the pretext of helping him win Rs 25 lakh in ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, a television quiz show.
Danish Nagar resident Santosh Verma raised a complaint with the cyber cell of Bhopal Police that his brother Rambabu had received a call saying someone had promised him to help win Rs 25 lakh.
Citing various procedures for the same, the unknown caller made Rambabu transfer Rs 1.55 lakh to his bank account in several instalments.
Finally the hapless man smelled a rat and asked his brother to inform the police.
“Based on his complaint, we have booked unknown persons under Sections 419 and 420 of IPC and 66D of the IT Act,” Cyber Cell AIG Shailendra Singh Chauhan said.
The two accused, Pushpendra Patel and Dili Patel, cousins residing in Satna district, were nabbed by the police. While Pushpendra runs a small retail shop of mobile phone accessories, Dili alias Babu runs an eatery in Amarpatan area.
According to Chauhan, the accused are suspected to be involved in several other such cases of fraud in other states as well.
