BANGALORE: Gedallahalli is a small area of a few shops and a few houses in the grand scheme of things called Bangalore. But the residents question the authorities on why, despite several complaints, nothing has ever been done to improve their state of living. The pathetic condition of Gedallahalli bus stop lies in the fact that the seats have been in the battered condition for the past few months.Live wires are a common sight in and around the bus stop. A fuse box is left open most of the time. A half covered manhole is another hassle that the people here have to deal with. The bus stop mainly handles buses travelling towards Kempegowda bus stop Shivajinagar, K R Market and to Vijayanagar bus stop.Although most of them are quite frequent, the elderly people need a place to sit and rest until the bus arrives. And sometimes, the wait is long. The bus shelter’s seats are supposed to be made of steel, rexin, aluminium or rubber. Here, at the bus stop, half the seats lay in a condition of ruin. The main problem lies in the fact that these half-damaged seats are potentially more dangerous than having no seats at all.The protruding parts are perilous as people, unaware of the situation, have sustained minor injuries while trying to sit down. Night time visibility is almost impossible. The half-open manhole will not take more than a few minutes to be repaired. But it has been in the same state of neglect for the past few days. The wires need to be cleared from the vicinity of the bus shelter in order to avoid electrocution which could be fatal. A resident of the area, Sheena, said, “I have to wait for my bus for almost an hour. With no seats, the wait is very frustrating. My legs start to ache and in the end, the wait becomes more tiring than the travelling itself.” Another occasional visitor to the area, Vijay, said, “I was shocked to see the state of affairs here. The first time I was here my leg almost ended up inside the manhole. It needs to be repaired immediately to ensure no one gets hurt.” He further added that the garbage problem in the locality also had to be sorted out.Buses are the most common mode of transport in the city. The least the authorities can do is ensure that proper bus shelters are provided say the residents. The local corporator of the area, N M Krishnamurthy, had no clue about any hassles here. He said, “I do not know of any such problems faced by the residents. But I will ensure that it is sorted out soon.”
