Mahatma Gandhi University vice-chancellor AV George was sacked on Monday after the Kerala governor as the chancellor of the university signed the order.
"The order has been inked," said a Raj Bhavan source who did not wish to be identified.
George assumed the office of the Kottayam-based Mahatma Gandhi University's vice-chancellor in January 2013 and was issued a show cause notice by then state governor, Nikhil Kumar, in December 2013 after complaints regarding George's qualifications arose.
The complaint made by the state's higher education department said George misrepresented his qualifications in the curriculum vitae, which he submitted before the search committee appointed by the state government for finding an eligible candidate for the post of vice chancellor.
The charge was denied by George, who said he has done nothing wrong and only put things in right perspective.
George on Monday went to the official residence of the Kerala Governor, but could not meet the incumbent Sheila Dikshit.
"I came to meet her in person, but could not meet her. I will speak to you all once I meet her," George told media at Raj Bhavan.
George was the nominee of the Kerala Congress (Mani), the third biggest ally in the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front.
