Key accused in DMDK mans murder arrested

A key accused in the case related to a DMDK man’s murder was arrested by the police during the early hours of Monday in Villupuram. On being caught the murderer attempted to escape after attacking a police sub-inspector.

DMDK functionary Soundar was  killed by a seven-member gang, to avenge previous enmity, on September 24, following which the murderers fled away in a car. Police had registered a case in this regard, and were on the look out for the murderers.

Eventually four persons--Muhammed Iiyas, Seenuvasan, Devanathan and Appu Murugan--were arrested, while the other three accused were on the run. On Sunday midnight, police recieved information that Arivazhagan, number one accused in the murder case, was hiding in a school building at Keezhperumpakkam here. 

Acting on a tip-off police team led by inspector Ramanathan and sub-inspector Chandran reached the government school campus. On being surrounded by police, Arivazhagan reportedly threatened the police with knife.  Sub-inspector Chandran confronted the murderer, but Arivazhagan attacked the sub-inspector with the knife and jumped off from the second floor of the school building fracturing his leg. The sub-inspector, along with Arivazhagan were admitted to Mundiyampakkam government hospital.

Police cover has been provided to the ward, where Arivazhagan was receiving treatment. Police said that several cases were booked against him. Police also launched investigation.
