THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister V S Sivakumar flagged off 14 new KSRTC buses from Thampanoor bus terminal on Wednesday, marking the commencement of operations for the Sabraimala pilgrimage season. The new buses were added to the fleet as part of improving efficiency of the existing special services.Speaking on the occasion, Sivakumar said that all steps had been taken to ensure efficiency in the operation of Sabarimala special services. As many as 195 buses, including 35 new ones, will ply in the route during the season. In the previous year, a total of 170 buses, including 18 new ones, operated as part of the special service. In the year before the number was just 147, including three new buses as fresh addition, the Minister said. Already, there are over 400 buses plying in sectors connected with Sabarimala during the season, he said. New buses will be rolled out according to the availability of the chassis. The programme was also attended by Mayor K Chandrika, ward councillor R Harikumar, KSRTC general manager G Venugopal and Executive Director (Operations) K M Irshad, among others.
