BANGALORE: Land developers association extended support to the indefinite stir by Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners and Agents Association demanding issuance of permit to transport sand across the state.Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Dayanand, president of the association said the ongoing stir has affected major infrastructure projects including private and commercial. “Construction of the houses too had come to a stand still and government is least bothered about the issue. The stir has even hit the ongoing Metro works and National highway developments. And due to this, 10-15 lakh labourers have lost their livelihood,” he added. He said good quality sand was not available despite paying huge amount of money. “Every day the state needs at least one lakh cubic of sand. But now the entire chain is affected due to indefinite stir as a result of the indefinite attitude of the state government. Now contractors are using filter sand which is not suitable for construction. Apart from this, even longevity of such buildings is questionable,” he said.Shanmugappa, president of the Lorry Owners Union, said government convened meetings in all districts & mines but had not framed rules for sand permits and mode of operation.
