New Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed concern as the government has informed it that it cannot block 4 crore porn websites operating in India. The government has told the apex court that they cannot direct Internet service providers to block these websites.
The government has told the court that efforts are on to persuade social media networks to have servers in India. "We are making efforts to bring servers operating from the foreign land to India to control pornographic websites," the Centre said.
The court, however, in a strongly worded observation, said that laws should be faster than technology and the time has come to ensure that if laws are made, they should be adequately implemented as well. The court said that if technology can do wonders, it can destroy also.
The court has told the Centre that there needs to be synthesis of law, technology and governance to control pornographic material on the Internet.
