The State government has cancelled the quarrying licence of Olympus Granite Private Limited (OGPL), once linked to Union Minister M K Alagiri’s son Dayanidhi.
Dayanidhi was one of the directors of the OGPL till 2010. The police have also booked cases against him for illegal quarrying and issued a look out notice.
According to sources in the industries department, the Government issued the cancellation order on Friday last. The government had originally issued license to the OGPL for quarrying granite in the area of three acres (1.12 hectare) located at Ammankovilpatti in Keelavalavu at Melur Taluk till year 2028.
According to a complaint filed by VAO Akbar Sait, the OGPL carried out mining works without the permission in the nearby poromboke land which was under control of the Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited (TAMIN).
Police said they have booked a case against the owners and irectors of OGPL based on the complaint.
Besides Dayanidhi, police filed a case against S Nagarajan, current owner of the OGPL and a DMK supporter. Earlier, police arrested Balasubramaniam, the managing director of the OGPL, Kanagu alias Chockalingam and Sunmugam, both of Keelavalavu, who helped in illegal quarrying.
Collector Anshul Mishra later told Express that the licence was cancelled as the concerned persons did not appear for inquiry despite issuing notice. “Till last week no one appeared before us,” he said.
