THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Higher Education Department has amended the prospectus for admissions to the five-year LLB course. As per the new amendment, general candidates with 20 per cent and SC/ST candidates with 15 percent marks in the entrance are eligible for admission to five-year LLB course. The amendment followed a crisis with only 147 students passing this year’s entrance exam for five-year LLB course against a total of 320 seats. The situation arose as a result of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations enforcing a cut-off of 25 per cent marks for general category and 20 per cent marks for SC/ST category for qualifying the entrance this year. Till last year, there was no such cut-off and there were enough candidates to fill the seats.According to sources, the cut-off was introduced this year at the instance of the principals of the law colleges who wanted to raise the standard of education in colleges.
