Vikram Lamba, brother of Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, was detained at the Mumbai international airport today for carrying foreign currency beyond permissible limit and not declaring dutiable goods, Customs officials said.
Lamba was stopped and later detained this morning by a team led by Sameer Wankhede, Deputy Commissioner, Customs, when he was passing through the green channel after he landed from an Emirates flight that arrived from London via Dubai, they said.
The officials said that the valuation of the foreign currency and the goods was underway and Lamba is being questioned.
Wankhede was also the man behind Bollywood actresses Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba recently being detained at Mumbai international airport. Both actresses were stopped for carrying an undeclared amount of jewellery in their bags. On her way back from London, Bipasha was let off after she paid the duty on products like designer handbags, sunglasses and footwear. Minissha was detained on her way back from the Cannes Film Festival for carrying 50 lakh worth of jewellery above the permissible limit.
