CHENNAI: A 34-year-old passenger who arrived from France, was caught at the airport possessing three kilos of gold coins worth Rs one crore without any valid documents on Monday. The passenger, who owned a hotel in France, was working as a courier bringing such valuables, police sources said. They also said customs officials caught Abdul Khader (34) of Karaikal, who arrived at Chennai airport at 3.30 am from France via Dubai, possessing a total of 364 gold coins. Customs officials seized 350 coins from his baggage and found 14 more hid in his clothes when they frisked him and checked his clothes after he was found possessing the coins without any documents. When customs officials inquired, the passenger told them that he owned a hotel in France. The man often flew to France working as a courier where he met a woman and got married and settled there before setting up the hotel. The man even got his sister married in France and she is now settled there. Only his father Sultan was in Karaikal, sources added.
