Man held for smuggling sand

KOCHI: The shadow wing of the City Police on Sunday arrested Faisal, 24, from Aluva, for illegal sand smuggling. Acting on a tip-ff received by the City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar regarding the illegal activity in the Cheranelloor and Eloor regions, the police also seized a mini-lorry used for transporting the sand. A case has been registered against the accused under the Kerala River Bank Protection and Sand Mining Act. The Commissioner said that stringent action will be taken against those involved in illegal sand dredging.
