COIMBATORE: As part of the MDMK’s ‘Kerala economic blockade’ agitation, party cadres in Coimbatore will block six entry points to Kerala in the district on December 21. MDMK Coimbatore district unit secretary V Eswaran on Sunday said that throughout the State cadres would block 21 routes leading to Kerala. The protest is in response to the call given by party general secretary Vaiko to send across a message to Kerala that its stand on decommissioning the Mullaiperiyar dam and lower the water storage in the reservoir was an ill-conceived one.“Six of these entry/exit points are in Coimbatore. Our functionaries will blocktraffic at K K Chavadi, Gopalapuram, Anaikatti, Valanthayamaram, Nadupuni and Venthavalam on that day,” he said while accusing Kerala of engaging in false propaganda of the dam’s safety.Eswaran distributed DVDs containing a “factual documentary” on the Mullaiperiyar dam produced by the Tamil Nadu PWD Senior Engineers Association.“We are distributing the DVDs to spread awareness among the people that the dam structure is strong and safe. We are planning to screen this short film on the dam in all villages,” he said. D Thirukkural Arasu,  retired Chief Engineer of Tamil Nadu Public Works Department explained how there was no  immediatethreat to Mullaiperiyar dam’s structure as projected by the KeralaGovernment.
