HYDERABAD: Union minister of state for power K C Venugopal has lauded AP power department officials for supplying electricity to rural households under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) and Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidhyuthikaran Yojana (RGGVY).Reviewing the progress of R-APDRP and RGGVY schemes in the state here on Wednesday. he insisted on timely completion of R-APDRP meant for reducing transmission and distribution losses.He assured that the Central government would release funds under the schemes. With regard to scarcity of coal and gas supply in AP, Venugopal said a decision will be taken to address the problem. He added the Prime Minister had been keen to address the scarcity in the whole country.“As of now, there is no change in the policy of importing coal,” he added.Except for completion of consumer survey under RAPDRP project, the deadline set to complete works like IT enabling, data centres, disaster recovery centre, customer care centres that includes GIS applications, is November this year.APTransco chairman and managing director Ajay Jain said that Andhra Pradesh has taken lead in implementing the R-APDRP project in 113 towns of the state with populat ion of above 30,000.Jain said the expenditure funds released for the schemes will be converted into a grant if the deadline is met.“The Centre has offered to convert loans into grants if the state succeeds in reducing transmission and distribution losses below 15 percent,” he said.An expenditure of Rs 388 crore consisting of part A and B spread over three years was allocated to achieve perfect metering, efficient billing and collections.Also, Rs 1056 crore was sanctioned for distribution of transformers, underground cabling and network improvement.
