CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Sunday observed that the tension prevailing in the border could have been avoided if the Supreme Court had questioned the actions of Kerala government dishonouring its verdict given in 2006 on Mullaiperiyar dam.“In order to thwart the Supreme Court’s order to increase the water level from 136 ft to 142 ft, Kerala had enacted the Kerala Irrigation Water Conservation (Amendment) Act 2006,” Karunanidhi said in a letter to the DMK cadre. Observing that he raised a series of questions on the validity of Kerala’s legislation on that Act, Karunanidhi said that he hasn’t got the answers so far.“It wouldn’t have led to a condition where Tamils are subjected to attacks if the apex court had taken actions based on the series of questions raised in this regard, ” Karunanidhi sai , reiterating that the Central forces should be deployed until the issue is settled.
