New Delhi: A modern marriage fixed on Facebook is bound to fail, said the Gujarat High Court while dealing with a matrimonial case.
Justice JB Pardiwala, expressing his views on the viability of such marriages, observed that such modern weddings are set to meet their doom any day.
"This is one of those modern marriages fixed on Facebook, therefore, bound to fail," maintained the judge in his short order.
The noting came as the HC adjudicated a petition by the complainant woman's in-laws, who were roped by her in the FIR over dowry demands and cruelty.
Underscoring the facts of the case, Justice Pardiwala noted that the couple got married in February 2015 after they met over the Internet.
"According to the first informant (complainant), she came in contact with the original accused no.1 (husband) on Facebook and thereafter, they started meeting with each other. They got married and within two months thereafter problems cropped up in their marital life," rued the judge while he emphasised that such a marriage had to fail.
The single-judge bench then proceeded to quash the criminal charges against the husband's family members as the woman's lawyer said she would want only the husband to face the wrath of the law.
The judge also advised the couple to end their marriage by consent and look forward to life.
"I am still of the view that the parties should explore the possibility of settlement and put an end to the marriage with consent. Both the sides are young. Once the marriage is dissolved, they can think about their future avenues in life," said Justice Pardiwala while disposing of the plea.
