More funds for Fire Department

KOCHI: The State Government will allocate an amount of Rs 36.50 crore for revamping the Fire and Rescue Services, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He was inaugurating the Fire and Rescue Station at Koothattukulam on Saturday.“State of the art equipment will be ensured in this department using Central and State Government funds. Decisions have been made to buy most modern equipment including sky lift,” he said. Measures will be initiated soon to fill the vacant posts in the department. “The cabinet meeting which is scheduled to be held on December 21 will discuss disaster management procedures,” he added. Excise Minister K Babu, P T Thomas MP and Fire and Rescue Services Commandant in General S Pulikesi also attended the function.
