When the final day began most of us were expecting India to win the match but the best thing about the victory was that it came on a pitch that was not tailor made for Indian bowlers.
In the morning Munaf Patel was simple outstanding and the way he cleaned up the England tail paved the way for India's victory. His run-up is rhythmic and his action is also very smooth. This means that he can generate a lot of pace which is very essential to get the wickets of the lower order batsmen.
He can also reverse swing the ball and according to me is the find of the series. Though he has a long way to go but the way he bowled today means that he is learning fast. Finally we have got a pacer who can match the best in terms of speed.
A bowler of his pace was the missing link in the Indian attack and now we can proudly claim to have a truly world class attack.
Moreover the Mohali pitch was not a true fast bowler pitch yet the way Munaf bowled showed that he can be a very destructive on green tops. On an overseas tour to England, Australia, South Africa or the West Indies he will be great asset.
Kumble has once again proved that he is the best Indian bowler. The way he bowled and got the crucial wickets shows that he has still a lot of cricket left in him. He mostly relies on change of pace and bounce but in this match he also turned the ball and the visitors found it extremely difficult to read him.
The victory has shown that India can be ruthless when the situation demands. This team has gelled very well and the youngsters have chipped in whenever they were called in to do their part.
Now we need to show some consistency and win the next match too.
From the point of view of England it was a sad end. But one cannot hope to win a match after scoring just 300 in the first innings. It is clear that they are missing their senior players like Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick.
They have scored most of the runs for England at the top and with both of them not in the team there is too much pressure on the youngsters.
If England does not get its act together soon them they will find the Indian too hot to handle in the next match.
