KASARGOD: The Indian Union Muslim League leadership has decided to conduct camps to find out whether the party activists had any connection with the cadre of the Popular Front of India (PFI).It was none other than Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who had replied to a submission in the Assembly that IUML activists were behind the Kanhangad disturbances, disgracing the IUML leadership. The party received another jolt when the police stated that out of the four IUML activists who had attacked the district office of the DYFI in Vidyanagar, one was an activist of the Popular Front.Though Youth League district president Moideen Kollampady denied the police version, the police insisted that one of the assailants was a PFI supporter. The IUML would conduct a two-day leadership camp in Uduma on October 28 and 29 and similar camps would be held at the branch level to insulate party activists from the influence of the Popular Front.Camps for IUML and Youth League workers would also be held at Kanhangad, according to Youth League leaders. The branch-level camps would examine the antecedents of each and every Youth League activist. “We want only Youth League activists in the organisation,” said Moideen Kollampady. The IUML district committee has also decided to take stringent action against those involved in the Kanhangad disturbances. According to Youth League leaders, the organisation had no role in the attack on some religious institutions in Kanhangad. An IUML leader said that the recurring attacks on party offices and other incidents of violence had created a bad name for the party among the public and other UDF constituents.
