KOCHI: “Now sir, tell me, what is your verdict in this case?” The question was thrown at Justice R Basant. As the audience sat on the edge of their seats, the judge drew in his eyebrows and pronounced, “life sentence”.The case in question was an imaginary murder case weaved by magician Gopinath Muthukad with the help of randomly chosen persons from among the audience at the inauguration of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Lawyers Art & Recreation Club (LARK), the cultural wing of Kerala High Court Advocates Association, held in Kochi on Monday.Various socio-cultural programmes have been organised as part of the celebrations. Gopinath Muthukad was draped with a ponnada and presented a memento by Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur. LARK General Convener Jayapradeep V announced that 25 eminent personalities will be honoured. He added that the club will also sponsor the education of 25 law students.“25 years ago, the movie ‘Nadodikattu’ portrayed the problems faced by unemployed youth at that time. But the same held true for us lawyers too then. Both LARK and these characters shared the same struggles and the same timeline. To acknowledge this unity, we will be holding a function called ‘Dasanum, Vijayanum, Sathyanum, pinne Njangalum’, where Sathyan Anthikkad, the director of the movie, will be present,” Jayapradeep said.
