Jayalaxmipuram (Mysuru): A Mysore University topper was arrested for allegedly uploading pictures of women classmates on porn and adult websites as revenge for “mocking” him.
The police said 24-year-old Jayanth Kumar also allegedly disclosed the names and contact numbers of his classmates, along with their semi-nude pictures.
The cyber crime came to light when the women in question started receiving lewd calls from unknown numbers.
Last week, they had registered a complaint against a professor, suspecting him to be behind the crime. The students had alleged that the professor made disparaging remarks against them in class. The students had even written a letter to Vice-Chancellor Prof Dayanand Mane, asking him to suspend the professor.
The police identified the case as non-cognisable and began investigation, during the course of which Jayanth Kumar emerged as the main suspect. Police said Jayanth had confessed to the crime.
The students alleged that the professor accused earlier was partial towards Jayanth. Police said the topper felt insulted when the students mocked him for the same and decided to get back at them by posting their pictures.
Speaking to News18, Vice-Chancellor Mane expressed shock at the incident. “Jayanth is a gold medallist. We are shocked. We will look into this matter urgently.”
A complaint has been registered under IPC Section 509 and IT act 67(A) at Jayalaxmipuram police station against Kumar. Speaking to News 18, an inspector said Jayanth Kumar was in judicial custody and the case had been transferred to the cyber cell.
