The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in its investigation into the NEET paper leak case, culminating in the arrest of Avinash alias Bunty from Jharkhand’s Dhanbad. Bunty, a key figure in the case, is reportedly linked to the distribution of leaked NEET question papers. He was presented before the Patna CBI court on Wednesday where the CBI secured his custody until July 30 for further questioning. Notably, Bunty is the cousin of Shashi Paswan, another individual arrested earlier in connection with the Neet paper leak case.
Bunty played a crucial role in disseminating the question paper and answer key. Following the NEET-UG examination, he allegedly disposed of the mobile phones used in the illicit operation by throwing them into a nearby pond. Acting swiftly on this lead, the CBI tracked the tower signals to locate the pond and subsequently conducted a successful recovery operation with the assistance of divers. A total of 16 mobile phones were retrieved from the pond based on Bunty’s indications.
The CBI, entrusted with unraveling the depths of the NEET paper leak scandal, continues its meticulous investigation. Initial findings suggest that aspiring candidates paid exorbitant sums ranging from Rs 35 to 60 lakh to obtain advance access to the exam papers.
The investigation has revealed that candidates from Bihar paid between Rs 35 to 45 lakh, while those from other states were quoted prices between Rs 55 to 60 lakh. Approximately 150 candidates across various states benefitted from the leaked papers, with examination centres identified in Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Latur (Maharashtra), Godhra (Gujarat), and Patna (Bihar).
