DIG, Kumaon, GN Goswami has appealed to the police to be alert to crimes against women in the district and take immediate action on the complaints lodged by people. He was addressing the district police force during his visit to Almora. Goswami also instructed policemen to take care of traffic in the growing Almora town. “The DIG has ordered us to keep an eye on outsiders and maintain a register of the people who come to the district for work or other purposes,” said SK Meena, SP, Almora.
Dehradun: Artists to be honoured by Akhil Garhwal Sabha
The Akhil Garhwal Sabha and Chithi, an NGO working on the folk art and literature, will honour several Garhwali personalities at a programme to be held at AMN Ghosh auditorium in Dehradun on August 4. Netra Singh Aswal, Jaipal Singh Rawat, Ganesh Khugsal, Girish Sundriyal, Neeta Kukreti and Madhu Sudan Thapliyal are some of prominent artists and literary personalities to be honoured on the occasion. Vijay Dhasmana of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust will be the chief guest. Garhwali folk singer Narendra Singh Negi and Akhil Garhwal Sabha president TS Aswal will be the special guests on the occasion.
Dehradun: Defence employees to stage protest for better pay
Defence employees under the aegis of the All India Defence Employees Federation will stage a relay fast outside the main gate of the office of Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun, from August 5. According to Dhyan Singh, general secretary of the union, the relay fast will continue for three days. The defence employees are demanding better pay and perks.

RS Tyagi, manager of the colony, said the temple through donations had collected Rs 31,000, which would be contributed to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Haldwani: Villagers demand revenue village status
Villagers of Damua Dhunga have demanded that their village be declared a revenue village so that they could avail of benefits of government development programmes. The village having over 12,000 population is inhabited since 1952 and its residents have been demanding the status of a revenue village for the last three generations. “Though reserve forest officers have declared that of the total 655 acres under the village over 617 acres are not forestland, the Revenue Department is not declaring it as a revenue village,” said Vijay Kumar Pappu, gram pradhan of the village.
Nainital: HC employees collect Rs 19 lakh for disaster-hit
Advocates and employees of the Nainital High Court have collected Rs 19 lakh to help disaster-hit villagers of the state. According to a press note issued by Advocate General UK Uniyal, the amount has been collected from the offices of law officers, practising advocates, besides from the offices of Advocate General of other states. “This amount includes donation from the offices of Advocate Generals of Bihar, Kerala, Gujarat, West Bengal and Nagaland, besides donation from law officers of the high court,” said Uniyal.
Pithoragarh: NCCP opens temporary schools for disaster-hit children
Temporary schools have been opened in the disaster-affected areas so that students could continue their studies, said Dr Yogesh Dubey, a member of the Nation Commission for Child Protection. The education of over 799 students of 42 schools has been affected in the district after heavy rains devastated the region. Dubey said the commission had instructed its officers to get in touch with local gram pradhans and Gram Shiksha Samiti members to continue the education of these children and provide them mid-day meals.
