Night shelter for women soon

KOCHI: The district administration has planned to set up a night shelter for women passengers here. Abhayakendram, the night shelter,  will be started at either the KSRTC bus station or boat jetty. The project is being financed under the innovative fund programme by the Finance Commission. District Collector P I Sheik Pareedh said the construction of Abhayakendram would be completed within six months after getting the approval.  The night shelter will be constructed following Kerala’s traditional architecture.  There will be cloak room, refreshment hall, recreation centre and Nadumuttom (the central courtyard) in the Abhayakendram. There will a dormitory which can accommodate 20 persons.  Rooms will be given only for overnight stays. In the first phase,  a single-storeyed building with a built-in area of 5,714 sqft will be constructed.
