BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda told his officials not to have mercy towards tax defaulters but take action against them without fail.BBMP release stated that the commissioner in a review meeting instructed his officials to re-check wedding halls, commercial complexes, hotels, IT complex, hospitals and malls and collect the pending the tax. He also told them to achieve 100 per cent tax collection this financial year. He has also warned to announce the names of the tax defaulters through media, if they failed to pay tax. The commissioner also instructed to continue to beat drums in front of tax defaulters’ houses.Further, he instructed officials for a proper tax assessment for commercial establishments, failing which he will take action against them. He also said that many property owners had transformed from residential property to commercial property through Bangalore Development Authority. But they still continue to pay tax under residential property category. He directed officials to collect the details and cross check the tax amount. According to the commissioner, as per joint commissioner of all the zones, there are many tax defaulters who have to pay more than `1 lakh. This amounts to `100 crore. He directed the officials to announce the names of owners who have failed to pay. In the present finance year, Palike is expected to collect `1,600 crore tax, of which it has collected only `1,100 crore. Commissioner directed the officials to collect the amount before March 2012.
