BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa bandh called by Maoist did not evoke any response in the State on Thursday. The State organisational secretary of the Maoist party Sabyasachi Panda had called for the bandh opposing the land acquisition by the State Government at Jagatsinghpur for the Posco Steel plant. However, bus services were affected in parts of Rayagada and Kandhamal district as operators decided to stay off the roads anticipating disturbance. In some places at Daringibadi, Kotgarh and Brahmanigaon in Kandhamal, shops remained closed.
AUTO DRIVER HELD: Khandagiri Police have arrested an autorickshaw driver who had attempted to rob a nurse and misbehave with her. The nurse had arrived from Nayagarh and hired the auto at Khandagiri Square. Instead of taking the woman to her destination, the auto driver drove to an isolated place near the Khandagiri hills where another two persons were waiting. When they attempted to rob the woman, she raised an alarm and locals rushed to her help. The driver was arrested.
