Telangana: With 11 swine flu deaths and 250 cases in January, Telangana is the worst hit state in the country. Alarmed with the situation, the Telangana government is putting effort in to control and treat swine flu cases in the state.
To prevent the spread of the disease, the government is even advising people to say no to handshakes and hugs and only say 'Namaste' to greet people. The government is reaching out to people and creating awareness about preventive measures.
"We are telling people to avoid body contact that can handshake or even hugs as they can get infected," said Dr Narendra Nath, Director, NIMS, government appointed spokesperson for swine flu.
The government has also urged people to avoid crowded places. An advisory has also been issued in all schools in Hyderabad. Parents have been told to not send children to school if they report flu like symptoms and immediately consult a doctor.
"Medicines have been sent to all hospitals, so that people can get it in 5 to 10 km radius. We are giving free swine flu testing and treatment for people," said Dr Narendra Nath.
Telangana government swung into action, after Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao called an emergency meeting and pulled up officials for their lethargic attitude in combating swine flu.
In 2015, 11 people have died due to swine flu and 250 cases have been reported. In 2014, 88 cases of swine flu were reported and 11 people died of the virus.
Government claims that situation is under control and there is no need to panic. Need of the hour is to stay alert and take precautions. The most important precaution being to wear masks before stepping out of your homes.
