No waste land left to give poor

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said that there was no waste land left in Tamil Nadu to be distributed to the poor as all of it had been given away during the earlier regimes of the AIADMK.Responding to a suggestion to allot waste land to the poor, the CM, intervening in the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, said that all arid land had been handed over to the poor and downtrodden during the regime of former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran and during her earlier tenures as Chief Minister.When DMK president M Karunanidhi made an election promise to provide two acres of land to the poor during the 2006 Assembly elections, she had warned that he was cheating the people, Jayalalithaa added.
