New Delhi: CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday said all the 14 people killed in last month’s violence in Nandigram were not the victims of police firing alone.
While speaking to party activists in Agartala, Karat claimed that of the 14 killed in Nandigram on March 14, only eight fell prey to police firing and the rest were killed by the anti CPI-M political activists.
The BJP, Trinamool Congress, the Maoists and other anti CPI-M elements have come to a common platform and were campaigning to tarnish CPI-M's image, he said.
His party would launch a countrywide campaign to tell, "What exactly happened there", as quoted by PTI, Karat said.
The CPI-M central committee has already published a pamphlet in the form of a letter, which would act as a guideline for the workers in communicating their side of the story to the people.
Referring to judicial reforms, Karat said CPI-M was for formation of a National Judicial Service Commission for appointment of judges.
"We (CPI-M) also want that the activities of the judiciary does not interfere with the federal system of the country," Karat added.
