BANGALORE: City-based photo lovers got a glimpse of different facets of celebrities and politicians as Sculpted Memories, a photo exhibition by 90 photo journalists from the state showcased the best of their work at the Chitrakala Parishat on Thursday. Candid photos of celebrities are dispalyed while many others are technical achievements in photography and have been captured in perfect clarity. Classic pictures like former Chief Minister late S Bangarappa in conversation with former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and an old photo of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa sitting on a lawn have been displayed. The exhibition also showcases the glory side of Photo Journalism as it also includes photos of a dead cheetah lying on the side highway while a truck passes by. Heartless, a photo by Narasimha Murthy of the Economic Times, shows an abandoned female foetus lying in a drain while people’s feet gathered around can be seen. “We always have to stay on the look out for creative angles. While not working I love to click nature and landscapes. It’s rare to get time though,” said Raagamayi, a photographer with Kannada Photo News.“We act like watchdogs for society,” said K Gopinathan from The Hindu. He described how his photo in which school children were seen crossing a drain by using High Tension lines as a bridge had an immediate effect with the drain being covered the next day. “These exhibitions help photographers gain a larger perspective. Not everyone buys every newspaper,” Gopinathan added. S Suresh Kumar, Urban Development and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, inaugurated the exhibition along with actress Puja Gandhi and MLA Roshan Baig. “These photos have brought back so many memories which are preserved forever. The collection is excellent,” he said.
