CHENNAI: The PMK held a demonstration here on Monday expressing solidarity with the people of Idinthakarai, who are agitating against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP).Addressing the gathering, PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss said his party supported the protest of over 10,000 people in Idinthakarai in Tirunelveli against the nuclear plant. “Japan and Germany have announced that 75 nuclear reactors in their countries will be shut by 2020. Radioactivity could be present in a periphery of five to 10 km from the location of reactors and this is carcinogenic,” he noted.Stating that the people have been protesting against the project for over 20 years, Ramadoss charged that project was initiated without consulting the people. Referring to the nuclear accidents in the past in Russia, Japan and America, he said nuclear reactors would “annihilate” humanity.“This project should be aborted. The State government should hold talks with the Centre on this issue,” the PMK chief said. PMK state president G K Mani, former Union Minister A K Murthy and a host of other functionaries participated in the function.
