Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has asked 36 steel companies, including Posco-India and ArcelorMittal, which had signed MoUs to immediately submit their physical and financial progress reports, according to official sources.

"The submission of the physical and financial progress report up to December 31, 2012 has been inordinately delayed, which has been viewed seriously," Steel and Mines Department Under Secretary B Behera said in separate letters to the different steel companies.

Behera said no response had been received from the steel companies despite letters and reminders. Besides Posco and ArcelorMittal, the other companies included Essar Steel, JSPL and Sterlite Iron and steel company limited, official sources said. The state government required information on the physical and financial progress of the steel companies as it had been asked to supply data by Odisha Assembly as well as Parliament.

Both assembly and Parliament are in session. Also, without information about the physical and financial progress of the companies, the government cannot take further move on land acquisition, which is being opposed by the local people at different places, the sources added.
