One of the worst days, everything went wrong: Harbhajan
He said that it wasn't as the 'green' element that got India into trouble, but the absence of 'red soil'.

Ahmedabad: Harbhajan Singh didn't offer any excuse for the poor batting performance of the Indian batsmen during Day I of the second Test against South Africa at Ahmedabad.

"It was one of the bad days I have seen in my last 10 years and I can't really say what went wrong. Everything went wrong. We need to take the blame. We didn't apply ourselves and played a lot of casual shots. You can't keep on complaining about the wicket. You have to play on whatever wicket you get," was all Harbhajan said after India were bowled out for 76 runs in only 20 overs.

He, however, also mentioned of the 2001 turnaround against Australia with a hint of optimism.

Though Harbhajan didn't choose to reply whether or not India captain Anil Kumble had a fall-out with the curator, he did say that it wasn't as much the 'green' element that got India into trouble, but the absence of 'red soil'.

"The last time we played here, the pitch had red soil. It wasn't the case this time," he pointed out, adding that curators in India need to understand, that "India's strength is in its spin. Most of the matches that have taken place in India, spinners have had a huge role to play. Teams all around the world prepare wickets according to their strength. No doubt we have good young fast bowlers coming through, but our strength remains spin."

He added that even if the curator didn't listen to what captain Anil Kumble wanted, "we couldn't have done anything. "We have to play on whatever surface we are provided with. So we couldn't have done much."
